MEN'S WORKSHOPS

Behaviour Change (Anger Management) Classes

Our programs consists of two phases.
Each phase runs for 14 weeks.

Women's workshops are also available...click here to find out more!

Phase 1 - The Entry Group
(Prerequisite is to have completed an assessment interview with David Nugent)

  • Men commence the fourteen week program after an assessment interview.
  • Participants are offered support and are encouraged to take responsibility for their behaviour.
  • Men learn to break the pattern of their violent behaviour and are invited to consider a range of alternatives to their abusive and controlling behaviour and the consequences this behaviour may have on their partner and children.
  • In this group basic skills are taught to improve the safety situation for family members.
Phase 2 - Behaviour Change
(Prerequisite is to have completed Phase 1, 14 week program)

Men who have made positive changes in their behaviour and have completed Phase 1, can move to a second 14 week course that challenges their old behaviours and belief systems. The course deals with a range of destructive behaviours, explores gender roles, it challenges participants to question existing personal attitudes and feelings which continue to encourage them to take a deeper responsibility for their own behaviour.

Phase 3 - On Going Support
The Phase 3 program is a fortnightly on going support group. This phase is for those who want to continue with their self development and enhance a solid foundation in their behavior change so they can continue in providing a safe environment for themselves and their family in the long term. In this phase we have two special evenings each term where the participant’s partner is invited to attend. This is only available to those partners who are attending the women’s group. On these nights we teach the couple to learn communication skills, ways of responding to each other, reflective listening skills and dealing assertively with criticism.

For men who have recently (last 12 months) completed Phase 1 and 2 are welcome to join or drop into these sessions at any time. This provides them a resource for support if they feel the need. We cover such topics as: 'The struggles of being a man', 'To let go', 'Explore old Myths old beliefs', 'Accepting criticism from her', 'Self monitoring' and a lot more.
